With effect from 1 January 2010, the Slovak Republic introduced an electronic toll collection system by law No. 25/2007 for all vehicles with a total vehicle weight exceeding 3.5 tonnes. Based on the order of the Government of SR No. 350/2007, the rule applies to all highways, expressways and National roads. The previously used vignette system was thus replaced.
The calculation of the road toll will be done from this point onwards by means of an On-Board-Unit (OBU) and depends on the kilometers traveled, the vehicle's emission class, the permissible total weight and the number of axles.
In order to enable transparency and control in the further charging of this distance tax, these costs are shown on the invoice as separate tariff items.
