Further information on truck toll increases in Europe

25.10.2023

Salzburg, 25.10.2023. We would like to inform you that binding information on road toll adjustments are now available for the following countries:

GERMANY
On Friday, October 20, 2023, the German Parliament passed the Third Act to amend toll legislation without amendment. The law will therefore enter into force as planned on December 1, 2023. As of December 1, 2023, road freight transport will be charged costs for CO2 emissions in the form of an additional partial toll rate in addition to the costs for infrastructure, noise and air pollution.
As a result, toll charges will increase by up to 83 percent from December 1, 2023.

HUNGARY
The Hungarian government has adjusted the toll rates by means of Decree 19/20222 (XI.19.) TIM.
These have increased by 17.6% (July value of Hungarian inflation) from October 1, 2023.

BULGARIA
As of June 22, 2022, the Bulgarian Council of Ministers approved an amendment to Decree 370/2019, increasing toll rates as of July 1, 2022, and advising a second increase as of January 1, 2023. This second increase in toll rates by up to 69 percent has already come into force on July 1, 2023.

For AUSTRIA no conclusive information is currently available. In all expectation, the toll in Austria will be adjusted again on January 1, 2024. The specific amount and the effective date have not yet been approved.

We will provide you with the effects of the toll increases passed by the legislature on your freight costs in a timely manner.
