Salzburg, October, 8 2026. Lagermax Logistics Austria GmbH, in collaboration with SUZUKI AUSTRIA Automobil Handels Ges.m.b.H. and RAIN AIR CARGO GmbH, successfully tested the transport of spare parts by cargo drone. The flight itself was indicative of broader trends, including the increasing integration of mobility, logistics, and innovative technologies.

Trying out new transportation solutions – mobility, logistics, and technology are converging

The growing interconnection of mobility, logistics, and innovative technologies is creating new opportunities for more flexible and responsive supply chains. “At Lagermax, we see potential applications for cargo drones in areas such as time-sensitive spare parts deliveries, connecting hard-to-reach locations, and on routes where short response times and high flexibility are required,” says Richard Pöschl, CEO of Lagermax Logistics Austria GmbH.

The utilization of cargo drones exemplifies a broader trend: mobility, logistics, and technological innovation are increasingly converging. New transportation technologies are contributing to the development of more flexible supply chains and the ability to respond more quickly to changing demands.

Perspectives for mobility and logistics

In this collaborative project, Lagermax, SUZUKI AUSTRIA, and RAIN AIR CARGO pooled their expertise: Lagermax contributed its experience in logistics, transportation, and network management; SUZUKI provided the requirements of an internationally active automotive company and RAIN AIR added its technological and operational expertise in the field of cargo drones.

Discoveries for the future of logistics

“Innovation arises when companies pool their expertise and explore new avenues together. That was precisely the approach taken in this project,” says Richard Pöschl. Although the cargo drone will not replace existing transportation solutions, it can effectively complement existing solutions in selected areas in the future. The key, Pöschl adds, is to deploy new technology where it creates tangible added value for customers and partners. The validation project also provided important insights for further assessment of the potential future use of cargo drones—particularly regarding efficiency, sustainability, and security of supply.

“To achieve project goals, industry insights and support from the logistics sector are crucial,” says Florian Frodl, Managing Director of RAIN AIR CARGO. As early as 2021, Lagermax was presented with the first potential use cases for cargo drones. With the recent transport of a SUZUKI spare part, a concrete use case was successfully tried out under real-world conditions for the first time.

The project thus vividly illustrates how the interaction of logistics, mobility and technological innovation opens new horizons for the future of mobility and supply chains.
